- Chairman Exchange National Bank
George Sax was born in 1904 in Peoria, Illinois, and graduated from Brown's Business College in 1923. He financed his education through a series of odd jobs. Upon graduation, he worked for an investment company. He later went into banking and by 1938, he was chairman of DuPage Trust Co.
In 1944, Sax took over the Halsted Exchange National Bank, renamed it the Exchange National Bank of Chicago, and moved it to LaSalle Street in downtown Chicago. In 1953, Sax became chairman of the board. The 20 years that Sax devoted to the Exchange National Bank saw the inception of new banking practices and services that were adopted by many banks throughout the country, including drive-in banking, instant loans, and open credit accounts.
After World War II, Sax developed Miami Beach's first luxury resort, the Saxony Hotel.
