Fred Lawson was born in Merrimac, Massachusetts, in 1891. After graduating from high school in 1908, he started working for E. L. Patch Company, a pharmaceutical firm in Boston.
Lawson worked his way up from errand boy to president of E. L. Patch, never missing a single promotion. He was a vital instrument in bringing the company into its position of prominence as a drug manufacturer.
After retiring in 1969, Lawson became the vice president of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. During World War II, Lawson served on the Drug Resources Committee of the War Production Board and headed the American Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association. He was very active in civic and community organizations throughout his life.
